HERE - Digital Experience Creation

As a reaction to the complications of the COVID-19 pandemic and the re-awakening of the social justice movement, a team of curators and myself devised a screen-art series to explore the trivium between subject, camera, and viewer. We were interested in the juxtaposition of physical separation and total (virtual) contact.

Objective

  • Create an engaging exhibition that utilizes the restrictions and opportunities of digital platforms

  • Inspired a collaborative community of artists and patrons

  • Allow viewers to feel as invested in the experience as the performers

  • Demonstrate our ability to creative problem solve

Problem Statement

How might we create artistic experiences that inspire and intrigue viewers about the changing platforms and arenas of expression?

Process

  • Affinity Map our desired outcomes and topics we hoped to articulate

  • Identify areas of innovation based on researching contemporary and historic artists who utilized new-media

  • Select artists and conduct visits to align goals

  • Micro-test events with various platforms

  • Run a week long series

Results

This project expanded our notions of what experience can be, can look like, and how it can be impactful. This project will forever alter our approach to exhibitions and connections. It was a resounding success with artists and viewers causing them to question and interact in unique ways.
