Greenway Intergy Modernization™

Context

As healthcare IT evolves rapidly, existing EHR platforms require modernization to sustain their value. Greenway recognized the need to reimagine its flagship product Intergy beyond incremental upgrades to better support customers' evolving needs. The aging code and interfaces had become cumbersome for users and limited Intergy's ability to power new care models.

“As a Greenway client for over 15 years, our practice has always appreciated Greenway’s willingness to listen to our biggest needs, and to then put those desires into action.” - Dr. David McAnulty, Northwest Primary Care

Objective

While capable historically, Intergy's legacy codebase and interfaces had become cumbersome. To thrive in value-based care, providers needed a next-gen solution prioritizing usability, flexibility and analytics. Feedback indicated the platform no longer optimized workflows or provided the real-time decision support required for success under new payment models.

As value-based care models continued to evolve healthcare delivery, Greenway recognized an opportunity to fully enhance Intergy's existing capabilities. While the platform had served customers well for years, feedback indicated a need for modernized interfaces optimized for accelerating clinical workflows. Providers also desired richer analytics and real-time decision support tools to thrive within new payment models. By undertaking a comprehensive modernization effort, Greenway aimed to implement advanced new features that would empower Intergy users with the next generation of integrated solutions to support their long-term growth and success.

My Role

As Senior UX Designer, I am part of a cross-functional team charged with modernizing Intergy's interface and experience. Working closely with product management, development and customers, my focus was simplifying every interaction to optimize usability while facilitating advanced new functionality. Significant research, prototyping and validation were required to completely reimagine Intergy from the perspective of its diverse user base. I ensured design decisions were informed by user needs uncovered through each phase of iterative testing and refinement. By prioritizing a user-centered approach, my goal was to establish Intergy Modernization as the benchmark for intuitive clinician and patient experiences in digital healthcare.

Methodology

An innovative design methodology leveraged ideation sessions to conceptualize new solutions that addressed gaps uncovered through prior research. We employed rapid prototyping techniques to translate concepts into functioning prototypes.

Initial prototypes were tested internally through interactive design reviews and usability evaluations. Feedback was used to refine specifications which were then implemented in the next iteration. Ongoing sprints are conducted to evolve designs in tandem with evolving requirements.

Participatory design reviews with key stakeholders provided qualitative feedback to further design development. Adjustments from each round of stakeholder and user testing strengthened alignment with business and customer needs.

As iterations progressed, high-fidelity interactive prototypes replacing paper prototypes allowed assessment under real conditions. Usability studies gathered valuable qualitative and quantitative insights. This iterative process of prototype-test-learn continued until designs effectively supported core workflows

Results

Through the initial phases of Intergy Modernization, we have delivered re-envisioned interfaces and experience optimizations that have greatly improved usability and workflow support based on early feedback. By establishing a modern technical foundation and implementing a user-centered design approach, we have transformed Greenway's flagship solution for the better.

While development continues, early indications are the new Intergy will exceed expectations of customers by empowering their long-term success. The next stage will involve expanding advanced analytics tools and connectivity features to further drive value-based care success. Continuous iteration as new needs emerge ensures the solution remains on the cutting edge.

Through maintaining our methodology, the transformative effects of Intergy Modernization are poised to establish a benchmark for integrated ambulatory solutions well beyond this project's completion. Our customer-focused, iterative work will fuel Healthcare's ongoing digitization and support providers' evolving requirements for years to come.
